What do you want more of? Do you want more money, more time, better relationships? Here is the secret to getting what you want most in life. All my success can be contributed to these five steps.
Step 1- Define what you want:
You cannot get what you want in life if you don’t know what that is. You need to figure out what it is you really want. No one else can tell you what your dreams are, though some will try. The true way to happiness is figuring out what YOU desire and going after it.
Step 2- Find a Mentor:
Finding someone who has done it before will help you to reach your goals much faster. You will make fewer mistakes and learn from their success. You don’t have to meet or work directly with the person for them to be a mentor either. I have many mentors I have never met that have made a big impact on my life; I listen to their trainings, read their books and follow them on social media.
If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.
-Sir Isaac Newton
Step 3- Create Three Goals:
People think that they have to be excellent at everything right away in order to succeed; that is simply not true. Write a list of your goals on a piece of paper. Narrow that list down to the top three goals that would get you the dream you defined. Throw the rest away! Multi-tasking leads to the death of your dreams; you need focus. If you are not doing tasks to get closer to those three goals you are not being productive. It is so easy to get distracted, so that is why laser focus is necessary.
Step 4- Action cures fear:
Now that you have your dream, a mentor guide you, and three goals to accomplish you must go to work. Like David J. Schwartz says in his great book The Magic of Thinking Big, “Action cures fear!” It is time to take action towards your goals. Push the fear out of your system, trust it will work since it has worked for someone else, and make moves. This is the piece most people in the world are missing. There are the talkers and then there are those who take action. Will people remember you for what you know or what you did while you were here?
Step 5- Persistence and evaluation:
Persistence is the secret sauce to the recipe. There will be setbacks and there will be walls you need to maneuver up, over, and around. You will either WIN or you will LEARN. There will always be someone or something that is out there testing your commitment to your goals and dreams. You need to stand and fight for them. With your never ending persistence you must keep evaluating your goals and tasks to make sure you are on the right track. It is never a direct journey to your dreams, you must make adjustments along the way. The best part is if you are persistent you can never lose.
Follow your heart, define your dreams, seek out those who will lift you up, get laser focused on what it will take to get there, take swift action, evaluate your progress and never ever give up on you or your dreams…because YOU DESERVE IT!
